Focus

God has nothing for the double-minded. As long as you are unstable in your mind-set or lacking in exactness of what you want from life, it is impossible to receive anything that God has to offer and even moreso, God reserves nothing for such people.
James put it this way “a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways; let him not think he can receive anything from God” (James 1:8,7). It is crucial to see that if you lack focus in your mind, everything you do will be out of focus and unstable not just in execution but also in outcome.
Look at the sun as an example. This powerful source of energy bathes the earth with billions of kilowatts of energy every hour but with some sunscreen lotion you can easily sunbathe for a little tan without any issues. On the other hand, a laser (which is a weaker source of energy) can cut holes through diamonds and wipe out cancer from the human body. A laser is just focused energy!
If you examine two companies; Coca-Cola & PepsiCo. , you will find that in the mid 80’s the share of the market was pretty even. Then, PepsiCo. went into a shopping spree of acquisitions and bought KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, California Pizza Kitchen, owning more than twice the amount of restaurants as McDonalds yet Coca-Cola remained solely a beverage company and 30years later, the value of Coca-Cola is twice that of PepsiCo. Focus is more powerful and effective than activity. What God has for you is only deliverable through the channel of focus.
The scripture records that “when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51). Jesus was about to ascend or to be lifted from the earth and so He activated the power of focus. It is impossible to ascend without focus. He not just aligned His mind and activities but His face. This means His countenance, posture and emotions were all aligned with the spirit of focus; engaging the tasks at hand to result in an elevation. Focus demands that you bring your mind, will and emotions into agreement. It is that wondrous place of clarity and alertness; getting in the zone, keeping on your toes, staying in target and staying on top of things.
To be clear, it does not mean neglecting the routine activities of life but prioritizing goals. I once heard someone say “never sacrifice your long term goal for someone else’s shot term goals” – think about that.
You cannot be focused without discipline. Discipline is that absolutely necessary bridge between thought/idea/vision and accomplishment.
